Site Moved to Static

Finally some news - but sorry, not about Shalane - but just for this site.

I have moved (almost) everything away from a content management system (CMS) to a static site.

The reason for this is that I don’t have the time to permanently keep the technical platform up to date. With all the AI tools floating around, this is more necessary than ever. Only the gallery will remain interactive for now but will also be moved to something that needs less underlying web server tooling. I also need to add a contact form so that - in the rare case of someone wanting to contact me for some website related reason - she/he can. In the meantime you may drop me a mail at joerg(at)shalane.de.

Comment forms protected against spam

While updating some older modules, I discovered that hundreds of spam comments have been made since I revamped this page. Fortunately, all of them went into the approval queue, so none of it was visible.

But, I also found one real comment (sorry to the poster that this comment never got visible until now), so I decided to install a CAPTCHA module (Mollom) to prevent spam from passing thru but allowing real comments to be visible. I also set up an email rule so I get notified of every new submitted comment that made it thru the CAPTCHA check.

I have updated the (pictures) gallery to the latest version of Coppermine (the gallery software that I use here). I have also re-enabled the comment function in the gallery. Note that user registration in the gallery has been disabled now (as well as here on the main page) as I don’t think there is any need for registration in the gallery. I also have removed all the users that had registered for the gallery (none of them has logged into the gallery for at least four years anyway).

Well… it’s been almost a year since I started to revamp the page and I have to admit I haven’t done very much…

But… today after updating all the outdated modules, I have also added a video gallery which lists some of the videos with Shalane that are available on youtube. - Shalane was by far the most wittiest person in this show although she was the youngest of the four candidates.

Originally I wanted to leave the page as it existed now for over a decade as a monument of Web 0.x technology, but on the other hand, the page was really ugly and it just had to be improved. I will copy/merge all previous content into the new page within the next couple of days.
